Oasis of Time

The man nodded and led her into an extravagant, yet neatly decorated room. "Please, have a seat," he said softly to her. "Tell me, how were you able to discern this?"

"Well I was supposed to have my period by now, plus I was getting dizziness as well as my breasts were sore" Amelia said as she sat down where he indicated.

The young man nodded and started preparing something nearby. "Have you noticed any other symptoms?" he asked, looking over at her. "Or anything else out of the norm?"

"Not really' Amelia said, closing her eyes.

The man nodded and set the mixture down before he went to her side and did a small check up, making sure she was as healthy as possible. "This is your first child?" he said, gazing into her eyes; there was something about his own that had her gaze locked.

"Yes it is" Amelia said, staring back.

The young man nodded and got back to his feet. "When you return to your time, will you be able to care for yourself and your child?" he asked, clearly concerned as he returned to the mixture, stirring it again before he added some of the sweet smelling wine that was nearby.

"I'll figure it out, I'll work at the laundry factor near by...they'll take me in" Amelia said after thinking.

The young man frowned and looked back at her. "Hardly sounds like appropriate conditions for an expecting mother," he said to her.

"It'll work out" Amelia said with a smile. "I'll give birth to a healthy baby"

The young man sighed and nodded before he handed the goblet to her. "Drink this," he said softly.

"What is it?" Amelia asked, looking at the liquid.

"Just something like an immunity booster," the young man replied. "To keep your health up at least until you get back your own time where I'm sure you have better medicine for a woman in your condition, correct?"

"Alright.." Amelia said and drank it before making a face. "that tastes weird..."

The man smiled. "I never said it tasted good," he replied.

"Do I have to drink it all?" Amelia asked, seeing a few drops left in the goblet.

"Yes, it's best if you do," the young man replied softly, watching her.

"kay..." Amelia mumbled before completely finishing it off.

The physician smiled and nodded, taking the goblet from her. "If you feel lightheaded or dizzy at all, take a break and rest. And if you feel really horrible while you're still here, come to see me and I'll try to help you, alright?"

"Why would I feel really horrible?' Amelia asked as she went to stand but got dizzy.

"You're with child, dear," the young man said, gently sitting her back down, seeming to notice her dizzy spell. "It's common for a woman to get ill during the first few months."

"Is that so..." Amelia said, sitting back in the chair as she closed her eyes.

"It's what I've seen in the countless other pregnancies I've helped with," the young man replied, washing the goblet out. "I somehow doubt you will be different."

"I'm not of your blood either" Amelia said, meaning that she wasn't Egyptian.

"Perhaps not," the young man replied with a sigh. "But you are a woman nonetheless."
